The details, portion sizes & diameter
Each cake layer is approximately 1 inch in height
Each cake consists of 4 layers ( = one tier)
Each cake tier is a standard size of 5-6 inches once filled and covered.
A dessert portion of cake = one slice of cake
Each cocktail or coffee serve = half a slice
Tiers & Double Barrel Cakes
Each single tier cake = 4 x 1 inch layers of cake, once filled and iced = 5-6 inches in height.
Each extended tier = 6 x 1 inch layers of cake, once filled and iced = 7-8 inches in height
Each double barrel = 8 x 1 inch layers (effectively a 2 tier cake with 2 full tiers of cake in the same diameter and supported with dowels on top of each other), once filled and iced = 10 - 12 inches in height.
